About this activity
Explore the historical Ship Cove while learning about the history of the cove, the residents of the area, its surrounding areas and the animals that live there

First discovered by Captain James Cook in 1770, Ship Cove has become a crowd favorite and a definite must-see when you’re in New Zealand. The historical tour, coupled by a scenic cruise, is packed with information from start to end thanks to your boat’s very knowledgable captain. Go ahead, ask him about anything from the history of the island, to the animals you can spot along the way. Once you get to the island, you get a chance to visit the areas Captain James Cook made camp (and home brew!) for his crew, lounge around on the beach, and take photos at the famous Captain Cook Monument. Finally, the last stop of the tour is at the Endeavour Inlet (named after Captain Cook’s ship) to view the Furneaux Lodge and Punga Cove Resort.

  • Get first hand knowledge from the captain about everything from the history to the inhabitants
  • Relive Captain James Cook’s days on the island and visit the areas he made camp
  • Take photos by the famous Captain Cook Monument
  • Relax and watch the wildlife on the beach while enjoying coffee or tea
  • Get a chance to visit the Endeavour Inlet to view Furneaux Lodge and Punga Cove Resort
