About this activity
Combination Guided Tour of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum This comprehensive city tour will show you some of the most important landmarks and sights of the historical center of Athens but also a thorough visit to the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum where your guide will give you an in-depth guided tour. You will then continue on to the House of the Greek Parliament, the Monument to the Unknown Soldier and watch the changing of the guards. The Acropolis The tour culminates with the crown jewels of the Greek civilization, the Acropolis which is considered the epitome of architectural design, beauty, and measured by most of the world. We will enter the Acropolis from the south slope so as to avoid the crowds and also to visit the Dionysus Sanctuary and Dionysus theatre built in the 5th century BC. As we begin to ascend the sacred hill a breathtaking view of the city below will unfold beneath us. While walking at a comfortable pace your guide will provide you with a detailed explanation of the glorious monuments of the Acropolis such as the Parthenon, dedicated to the goddess Athena and the most important building surviving of classical Greece, the Erectheion, the Propylaia, the Nike Temple as well as surrounding landmarks and monuments of equal importance and splendour such as the Philopappos, Mars and Pnyx Hill, the Ancient Observatory, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the Ancient Agora. Ample time for exploring the Acropolis and picture taking will be provided. Free time Time for exploring and picture taking at the Acropolis will be provided after your Acropolis tour. Then you will walk with your tour guide to the Acropolis Museum. On the way and before you start the guided tour in the Museum at about 13:45, you will have time to get a sandwich or a drink if you like. The New Acropolis Museum The New Acropolis Museum was designed by Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi in cooperation with the Greek architect Michalis Photiadis. Its unique design has incorporated the excavations which are visible under stunning glass floors. The Acropolis masterpieces are marked out and given the prominence they deserve through the ideal interior atmosphere conditions, the natural lighting, as well as easy visitor access, panoramic views and excellent layout of the exhibition areas. It exhibits about 4,000 artifacts. Back to the Port of Piraeus and your ship Your transfer will depart at 3:50 pm from Alpha Bank, at the beginning of the pedestrian Walkway of Dionyssiou Areopagitou, next to Melina's statue across Hadrians Arch. If for any reason you miss the return transfer, you will have to return to the port of Piraeus with your own means.
