Day 1: Sofia – Sopot – Plovdiv

Pass By: Plovdiv Old Town, Plovdiv 4000 Bulgaria
Our journey starts at 8:00 am from Sofia. We’ll drive east on the Panoramic road. In two hours we’ll find ourselves in Sopot – a typical sub-Balkan town where we will visit the Ethnographic museum whose exposition is dedicated to the traditional daily life at home.

In the workshops, we’ll be able to experience some of the most common crafts – how the smithing, the weaving, and the woodcarving were exercised in the pre-modern past.

Still, in Sopot, we’ll visit one of the few left water mills as well as the house-museum of the most important Bulgarian poet and novelist of the Bulgarian XIXth century – Ivan Vazov – the ‘Patriarch of the Bulgarian literature’ as we call him.

Lunch in a folklore-style restaurant with traditional cuisine will be our last activity in Sopot.

We’ll head south to the city of Plovdiv. After one hour we will be exploring the most beautiful part of the city – The old town, where are situated and preserved the family houses of the rich merchants of the time. We are going to take a look of several of them. The last stop for the first day of our trip will be the area, called the Trap (Kapana).
