Pass By: Fort Lesendro, E80, Montenegro

Lesendro is a peninsula and fortress on Skadar lake, located near the village Vranjina. The fortress was built in the 18th century. It is located on the peninsula that was an island until the construction of the Belgrade - Bar railway line. During the reign of Bishop Peter II Petrović-Njegoš, it served as a defense against Turkish attacks. Unfortunately the Montenegrins weren’t successful and the Turks conquered the area and the island became known as Njegos’ sorrow. The fortes of Lesendro is an example of the long lasting struggle of the Montenegrin people for independence.

Tour plan: Departure is from Virpazar. Cruising begins through a beautiful little channel surrounded by various plants and birds, after which we come to a bigger part of the lake. By boat we pass under the bridge which is part of the main road Podgorica – Bar. Lesendro is located just behind the bridge.

After that you will see big and small Cakovica islands where we will make a break for swimming. After swimming we will go back to Virpazar.
