Lake Fogo Sao Miguel Hiking Tour from Ponta Delgada

About this activity
Meet your driver-guide at your hotel in Ponta Delgada in the morning and travel by comfortable vehicle to the start point for your hike to Fogo, a stunning crater lake located in the center of Sao Miguel island.
On arrival, hop out and with your guide leading the way, set off on your walk to the lake and its surrounding region, regarded as one of the most beautiful in all the Azores.
Your trek takes you through hugely diverse terrain, passing through dense forests and lushly green slopes overflowing with a huge variety of native and endemic vegetation. The trail to the lake in the morning is considered of medium-level difficulty, and winds its way uphill for a total of around two hours.
On arrival at the lake, which occupies the bottom of a collapsed caldera, enjoy a relaxing break, with time to soak in the spectacular views of the turquoise waters, and if you wish, enjoy a brief swim before or after a picnic lunch.
Following lunch, the route is mostly downhill and requires care to avoid slipping, which means the tour is not recommended for people with knee or ankle problems.
After your hike, relax on your ride back to Ponta Delgada where your trip concludes with a drop-off at your hotel or the tour office in the Portas do Mar district.
