The Protected Area for Resource Management at the Port of Capelas - Ponta das Calhetas, covers an area of 1499 ha, includes areas of geological interest (Morro das Capelas) and of natural interest for the development of particular habitats for species of fauna and flora. The Morro das Chapelas is a cone of tufts, formed in the wake of a highly explosive fioro-magmatic eruption, and constitutes an important area for the nesting of several seabirds, namely Crayfish (Calonectris diomedea borealis) and Chick (Puffinus assimilis) .
