About this activity
Itinerary

We set out from PEDSAC through the harbour on our way to Algoa Bay. Depending on activity we will either go North or South in search of Dolphins and Whales. North is to St Croix and the penguin population. South is to Cape Recife and a higher likelihood of Whales.
Be prepared to have your trip extended should we come across unique sightings such as Killer Whales and even Marlin.
The atmosphere on the vessel changes to one of hushed reverence whenever we spot Orcas in the Bay. To sight these magnificent predators in Algoa Bay is a really special occasion allowing us mere humans the time to marvel at the magnificence of these killing machines as they arrogantly patrol the bay in search of a tasty dolphin snack.
In Humpback season the returning males travel with their buddies and are boundlessly curious - coming right up the the vessel and spy hopping at curious humans.
Brydes Whales are spotted year round - shyer than the Humpback they busily get on with feeding on massive bait balls barely pausing to pose as they thrust up through the middle of clusters of sardines moths agape revelling in the feast.
Sea birds such as Cormorants, Gannets, Cape Terns, Sea Gulls and Jackass Penguins dot the bay during feeding season.
The Sardine Run starts off of Algoa Bay and is a banquet for Bottlenose and Common Dolphins. Closer in shore we are often privileged to sight the rare Humpback Dolphin.
Southern Right Whales pop up in the strangest places - from along the beachfront, to right in front of the harbour, amongst ships at anchor and close to Bird Island.
Every day at sea is different, every day an adventure. The AB Marine web site has loads of information on what to see in Algoa Bay as well as the best times to see certain species.
A thimbleful of experience at sea with AB Marine Whale and Dolphin Watching will fill your bucket list to overflowing.
