About this activity
The oldest botanical garden in the Southern Hemisphere, the Pamplemousses Botanical garden, in the north, was first constructed by Pierre Poivre in 1770, and covers an area of around 37 hectares. After the Visit at the Garden, drive to the Capital city of Port Louis, where we will stop at Fort Adelaide, also known as the Citadel, an ancient fortress. After that, proceed to the local market which consists of two corners, one of local fruit and vegetable market and on the other side the Handicraft stands, where one can find colourful beach pareos, embroidered linen, spices, recycled and stained glass objects, semi-precious stones, wooden sculptures, basketwork, souvenirs made out of coconut, in wood or in glass, as well as a creative range of regional handicraft and cultural traditions from the Indian Ocean.

Note: For clients staying in the south, we recommend the full-day Beauty of Mauritius.
