Horse Racing with Crown lodge

In Mauritius, there is but a single event, which can gather twenty thousand islanders in a particular spot once a week: horse racing. Every Saturday, round about noon, a surging mass of people flocks towards the Champ de Mars, the second oldest race course in the world.

Approximately every thirty minutes, a sweeping roar rises from Port-Louis as the pack makes its way into the final straight: Mauritius is at a stand still to listen to the Champ de Mars.
