View an expansive vista of the Columbia River Gorge, take photos, and hear the story of the way the waterfalls were created before getting on your bikes and beginning to ride.

If opening schedule allows, visit the most beautiful rest stop in Oregon, take a walk to the upper deck, learn about the architectural history, and enjoy what could be the most expensive public bathroom in the Pacific Northwest.

Get off your bike and walk to the base of the stunning plunge-style waterfalls, which tumbles over layers of 15 million-year-old columnar and entablature basalt frosted with lichens.

Stop At: Bridal Veil Falls State Park, Columbia River Scenic Highwy, Milepost 28, Corbett, OR 97019

Put your bikes away for a while and take the short (1 km) hike to view Bridal Veil Falls, a double-cascade waterfall that was once the center for lumber operations here.

Stop At: Multnomah Falls, 53000 E Historic Columbia River Hwy, Bridal Veil, OR 97010

Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in the state and one of the most impressive, and most photographed, waterfalls in the U.S. If you're chasing waterfalls: this is the one many are seeking to catch. We'll stop briefly at the falls for photos and the 1/4 mile / 1/2 km hike to the iconic Benson Bridge (if desired).

Stop At: Hood River Waterfront Park, 650 Portway Ave, Hood River, OR 97031, USA

We'll stop in Hood River, wind surfing capital of the U.S., to pick up lunch before getting on our bicycles again.

Stop At: Mosier Twin Tunnels, Mosier, OR 97040, USA

We'll ride the famous Historic Columbia River Highway from its Hood River western end, the beautifully scenic Mosier Twin Tunnels.

Duration: 30 minutes

Pass By: Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail, Mosier, OR

We'll ride through the sweet town of Mosier and up into the eastern Columbia Gorge's wine country; with a side of cherry trees, stopping (in season) to pick up cherries or taste wine if desired and time allows.

Stop At: Rowena Crest Viewpoint, Old Columbia River Scenic Highway Mayer State Park, Mosier, OR 97040

Rowena Crest is the eastern pinnacle of the Columbia River Gorge, with wildflowers in season and some of the best road bicycle riding in the world; nearly empty of vehicles and with stunning views everywhere you look. In season, wildflowers abound!

Stop At: Mayer State Park, Rowena Ferry Road, Mosier, OR 97040

We'll finish our ride at Mayer State Park, stopping to watch windsurfers launching their boards (if the wind is right). If we haven't stopped to eat our lunches yet, we'll do it here, before heading back to Portland.
