About this activity
Visit the beautiful Columbia River Gorge! Your adventure will take place along the Historic Columbia River National Scenic Byway, where some of the locations we may stop include: Portland Women’s Forum, Crown Point Vista House, Latourell Falls, Multnomah Falls, and Shepperd’s Dell.

You tour will start with the view from Portland Women's Forum. This location is absolutely breathtaking and it's one of the best spots to soak in a view of one of the most beautiful places on earth: the magnificent, awesome Columbia River Gorge.

Next, we will stop at Crown Visit Point House with a complete overlook of the Gorge region. Crown Point Vista House, best known of the scenic lookouts along the Historic Columbia River Highway, provides a panoramic view of the Columbia River. The Crown Point Vista House was built in 1916 and refurbished and completely remodeled in 2005.

Our next stop is Latourell Falls. This waterfall plunges 249' over a massive wall of columnar basalt, some of the best formations in the Pacific Northwest, before cascading hastily toward the Columbia River. This waterfall is usually most recognized for the large patch of bright yellow lichen adorning the cliff face to the right of the falls, and this characteristic has led many famous photographers to this captivating location.

Other waterfalls we may stop at while driving on the Historic Columbia River Highway include:

Sheppherd's Dell- In 1915, a local dairy farmer named George Shepperd gave all that he had (this tract of land) to the City of Portland as a memorial to his wife. The upper fall is around 42' tall. The lower tier is around 50' tall.

Bridal Veil Falls- Beautiful Bridal Veil Falls is an elegant and graceful lady that can be fully appreciated from the deck of a viewing platform rebuilt in 1996. The creek hustles down from the top of nearby Larch Mountain, tumbles over the cliff and eventually flows into the mighty Columbia River.

Next we will drive to Multnomah Falls. According to Native American lore, Multnomah Falls was created to win the heart of a young princess who wanted a hidden place to bathe. Multnomah Falls is the most visited natural recreation site in the Pacific Northwest with more than 2 million stopping by each year to take in the views! Fed by underground springs from Larch Mountain, the flow over the falls varies, but is usually highest during winter and spring. This is also one of the best places in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area to study geology exposed by floods.

Return to Portland and drop off at downtown Portland hotels.

Had a fun time last month on a morning private van (there were 12 of us) tour of four of the waterfalls along the Columbia River Gorge. We visited Horsetail Falls (10 minutes there), Multnomah Falls (40 minutes there), Wahkeena Falls (10 minutes) and Latourell Falls (25 minutes), plus the Vista House (30 minutes) for a sampling of the great nature just outside Portland. Our driver/guide was friendly and knowledgeable and provided some nice city recommendations and historic narration of the spots we visited. We were picked up at our hotel just after 8:30 (easily arranged by emailing the contact provided after booking) and dropped off by Pine Street Market (though they could have dropped us off at our hotel if we'd wanted). With these tours, there's obviously a schedule to abide by, but this was a great way for us to see the waterfalls without having to rent a car ourselves, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a similar "best hits" experience.

This was a very enjoyable excursion to a stunning part of the world. After booking the tour you have to email or call the organiser to arrange pick-up. I was worried this would be difficult since I was out of state when I made the booking and could not get through on the phone number. But they answered the email immediately and arrangements were polite, smooth and easy. Our guide picked me up from my hotel and (after another couple of collections in downtown hotels) we drove to see a number of waterfalls. The view along the river gorge was wonderful and the falls themselves are a treat. Our guide provided a relaxed and informal commentary as we drove along, and made it easy for us to explore the waterfalls, giving us ample time to see what we needed – and even helping take photos. This was a superb way to spend a Sunday morning and well worth it.

My husband and I came to Portland from San Diego to enjoy my birthday and anniversary. The highlight of our trip was the tour along with the fantastic tour guide John. He made the tour fun with his fun personality and was very informative. We learned quite a bit about Portland that we didn't know about. We only thought the tour include 2 stops but we ended up with 4 which was amazing. If it wasn't for the tour we wouldn't know where to go. We really had alot of fun. Thank you John and the tour company.

Crystal was an amazing tour guide. She was so knowledgeable and personable! She shared a lot of information and history, and provided other ideas on things to do after the tour. She created an easy going atmosphere while we were checking out some beautiful waterfalls. We highly recommend this tour and guide!

Sara was very good tour guide, very knowledgeable about history and the environment. She had alternative paths to take that were easier to navigate with health conditions.
