Small-Group Day Trip to Alvarinho Vinho Verde Wine Region from Porto

Born in a unique place of the world and produced from a specific cast that grows only in the Iberic Peninsula, this is Alvarinho, a typical Portuguese wine which is both one of the most important varieties of the Tart wine region and one of the internationally prized. A true top quality wine.

It undoubtedly lies in the exceptional localization of the vineyards, a micro-climate - damp because of the Atlantic influence, mild temperature, small thermal amplitudes and pronounced solar exposure during August and September - and people’s knowledge and know-how to select the better estate of maturation. New technologies on fermentation - gathered to ancestral processes - contribute to extract the best quality of the grapes coming to the cellar. At that stage, the wine is given the producer’s own touch who thus contributes to the diversity of Alvarinho wines.

The first stop in the morning will be to visit Quinta do Soalheiro, the first Alvarinho brand in the most northern point of Portugal (city of Melgaço) and one of the first Portuguese producers of Alvarinho. Here the Alvarinho is special, the land is protected by a range of mountains that create conditions of rainfall, temperature and sunshine hours necessary for the best ripening of the grapes. You will love its vibrant and elegant expression!

Following towards Monção, a small city rich in cultural heritage, it's time to indulge in a very tradicional lunch (at own expense) and taste the region's gastronomy! After lunch, it's time for a guided visit to the Alvarinho Museum. This beautifull building, "Casa do Curro" was prepared to defend, promote and commercialize the Alvarinho wine. You will be provided a guided tour of the exhibition area on the Alvarinho wine and the region, the wine producers and wine tasting at the end. Cheers!

This experience would not be complete without visiting another Vinho Verde Alvarinho winery: Quinta das Pereirinhas. Family business, recently created, dedicated to agriculture, especially for the Production, Manufacturing & Commercialization of Alvarinho wine.
