About this activity
Day 1: Arrival
We welcome you to Porto’s airport, where you’ll be given all the information of the program and all the necessary equipment. The next destination is Penafiel, where the Vinha family awaits to welcome you to their welcoming Solar Egas Moniz. Take the rest of the day to enjoy the peace and quiet of this lovely refuge.
Day 2: Paço de Sousa Monastery and Castro Monte Mozinho
After the breakfast filled with typical products we’ll head out to Paço de Sousa monastery, one of the 21 Romanesque Route monuments. This route represents an important architectonic legacy of Roman origin that dates back to centuries before the country’s existence.
It is in the middle of a truly rural landscape that we reach Castro de Monte Mozinho, one of the biggest pre-roman ruins in the Iberic Peninsula. Still wrapped in a millennial history, we head back to Solar Egas Moniz to enjoy a sunset. We suggest the company of some white port as an appetiser before dinner (13km + 450m).
Day 3: Train trip over the Douro and vyneyards and river
The destination is a train trip with the most wonderful views over the Douro Vineyards and the Douro River itself. You’ll reach Pinhão. Leave your bags in The Vintage House and go for a walk in Pinhão. The route will be a circular walk within the lovely village of Pinhão, including its vineyards and old enchanted trails. Vintage Douro House awaits you at the end of the day (12Km, +370m).
Day 4: Typical Village of Sabrosa and Provesende
After a breakfast filled with details and after a small transfer, the walk will be through the typical village of Sabrosa and Provesende, both part of the protected area of Douro by Unesco with unique views over the Douro valley (14,4km + 370m).
Day 5: Régua and Wine Tasting
After breakfast, take the train from Pinhão to Régua. Arriving in Régua you will walk until you reach Quinta da Pacheca (10km, +200m).
Enjoy a wine tasting in the hotel and visit this winery. Sleep in Quinta da Pacheca.
Day 6: Lamego
After breakfast you will have a small transfer to Lamego. The route of today will be full of history, passing by the Lamego Castle nestled at the top of the village and stage of numerous battles to protect the village. Lamegos´s cathedral and Nossa Senhora dos remédios are two other ex libris of the day. Then you will walk from Lamego to Quinta da Pacheca, with unique views over the vineyards and contact with local people. The night is spent in Quinta da Pacheca (14km, +300m).
Day 7: The historical city of Porto
Today we’ll head out to the historical city of Porto. Depending on the time of the year, we’ll be able to reach the city via the Douro River, by a nice boat trip, with lunch included, or by train. The 1872 River House, in Porto’s riverside UNESCO world heritage, welcomes you to the 6 bridges city.
