To begin with, there was A LOT of walking on this tour. If you've never been to Porto before, the city is built on a steep hillside, as is Vila Nova de Gaia on the opposite bank, the first leg of the tour. So while you may not cover a huge linear distance, you definitely work against gravity for huge stretches. Wear comfortable shoes, and be prepared. The other reason I mention that is because the dress code for the tour is listed as "smart casual". If you think smart casual precludes walking/running shoes, I recommend you reconsider. Besides, I can tell you that practically no one on our tour was "smart casual". The guide herself was in an orange (albeit company) t-shirt, and yoga pants. Not what I would consider smart casual. But all that aside, the tour was excellent. Our guide was funny, knowledgeable, and very pleasant. The visit to the Croft cellars was a unique experience, and the tasting include some excellent ports. The wine bar for the second tasting was excellent as well, and the final stop was a great little restaurant, Maria Odete. The staff there was very friendly, and the food was great. So much so in fact, that my wife and I decided to linger afterwards for dinner. It was a cap to a fantastic day. If you want to see the beauty of the city, try some excellent Portuguese wines, and see the inside of the port-making process, you can't go wrong with this tour. But if you have difficulty ambulating, this isn't for you.

This was the perfect tour to get to know and enjoy Porto wines. Our guide Juliana, was professional and a delight to be with. The tour took us to Croft for a guided tour and a tasting. Then onto a restaurant across the river for a tasting of food and wine. This was followed by a long walk uphill to the most fabulous place for more tasting of food and wine. Along the way, we got a history lesson and tour of Porto. I would definitely recommend this tour as a way to get to know Porto, and all it has to offer.

At 25, probably one on the best value tours in Porto. After meeting our tour guide Ana next to the lower section of the Dom Luis bridge, we walked, some distance, up to the port cellars of Croft, in Vila Nova de Gaia on the south side of the Duoro river. Although not a structured walking tour, Ana did point out areas of interest on the way and answered any questions people had. Once at Croft, we had a chance to rest and cool down a little whilst sampling 2 types of Port wine, a ruby and a rosé, before heading off for a tour around the cellars, learning about the production methods of Port and the different Port styles as well as the founding of the Croft company. The rosé Port was a new experience for me and whilst not as rice and decadent as the other Ports I have sampled I could see that it would appeal to some people as a lighter alternative, especially if used in a spritz. After the tour you get to sample another Port, this time a tawny, definitely my favourite, before heading off the the next location. After some more considerable walking, through the rather hilly city of Porto, we arrive at location number 2, a wine bar where we get to sample a glass of either white or red Douro wine, the same area where Port gets its grapes but not a Fortified wine. This was accompanied by some cheese, olives and yellow beans. It's then onto location number 3, another wine bar but this time to sample some Vinho Verde, green wine, so called as the grapes are picked whilst they are still green. A wine specific to Portugal, it is very light and easy to drink. This was accompanied with some rather delicious meat and cheese tapas. This is where the tour officially ends, but half of the group agreed to carry on drinking some more Vinho Verde. After some time the conversation moved to the need for some sustenance and Ana, who is still with us leads us to a local eatery. I take Ana's advice and try the local delicacy of Fancesinha, a toasted sandwich containing 7 layers of different meat, all encased in cheese and covered in a special sauce. Perfect fodder for a evening of wine and far tastier that my description probably sounds. I would highly recommend the tour, the tour guide and venues. I would go as far as to say I may even consider doing the tour again if I am ever back in Porto.

This tour was more than I expected! We had a great guide, Pedro, who was funny and extremely knowledgeable with wine facts was right up our alley! He spent quality time with us answering any and all questions we had and gave us great recommendations for dinner after the tour! Thanks so much!

Having been on a few wine tours in different countries, this was by far my favorite. The tour guide was very knowledgeable not only about the wine, but also about Porto as a whole and recommended restaurants/bars. Additionally, you get three full servings at the chosen wine cellar - not just small samples. It was also very nice to have the restaurants with tapas included in the tour. If you are looking for a reasonably-priced wine tour or are limited on time in Porto/Gaia, this is it!

Great evening tour that was made by a great guide and an excellent group of people. The insight into Portugese was well done and we throughly enjoyed the small bars and drinks. The refreshing green wine was much appreciated

I wouldn't recommend this tour. I chose it cause of the reviews I read, but it was a big disappointment.cQuite like all the other tours I've taken, it really depends on the guide you get. We joined the tour so we can get a background and overview of the wines in Portugal. Our guide knew very little about the history of wines in Portugal and simply escorted us from wine cellar to wine bars without any background or explanation. We could have done a similar itinerary ourselves and saved money! Once we got to the wine cellar, a staff member from there took us around and explained the port wine making process. But we could have gone directly to the wine cellar and took the tour ourselves. Perhaps we just didn't have a good guide. We took other wine tours in Portugal, and it was far better than this.
