Pass By: Tourist Information Centre - Staroměstská radnice (Old Town Hall)
In the morning you're picked up from your hotel in the Prague city center by a certified mountain leader (and a driver at the same time) for the drive to the Giant Mountains National Park, which usually does not take longer than 2 hrs. Depending on the size of the group you're picked up by either a car (up to 3 clients), or a mini-van (up to 7 clients).
Stop At: Snezka, Pec pod Snezkou, Hradec Kralove Region, Bohemia
The hike starts in a small town called Pec pod Snezkou located in the eastern part of the Giant Mountains NP. You are about to climb the highest peak in the Czech Republic, called Snezka (1,603m a.s.l.) through the deepest glacier valley called Obri dul (Giant valley). This is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Czech Republic and at the top of the peak you're standing on the roof of the Czech Republic. You cannot get any higher in this country. On sunny days the views are spectacular. Quite often you can also experience the cloud inversion, leaving the lower areas of the Czech Republic buried in fog, while you're enjoying sunshine.
After that you descend along the ridge to a plateau that turns to moorland in summer, through which you can only pass on an epic wooden catwalk. In the middle of the plateau you will find the oldest and the biggest mountain chalet in the national park, which at the elevation of 1410m also hides the highest located brewery in Central Europe inside. This is your lunch place. Choose from a variety of local dishes and different types of the high-quality Czech beer brewed right here in the middle of the national park from a mountain stream.
Now you only need to return back to the car, mostly downhill while enjoying the quiet and peaceful landscape in a full bloom with stunning views breathing in the fresh mountain air. On the way back you will be able to observe ruins of a former concrete bunkers that were build there along the state border before the WWII.
Total hiking distance is 17 km (10.5 miles).
