My husband and I are in our sixties, but we regularly hike and are used to very long walks. We did the Small-Group Pravcicka Gate Winter Tour from Prague with Northern Hikes on March 17th. This was an excellent tour in every way. The office staff Kristina did an exceptional job of providing information and being sure we understood how strenuous the trip would be. Based on her info we switched from a tour that would have required even more, and steeper hikingand we were glad we did. Our tour guide Marek was terrific. He was personable and spoke good English, was well-informed, and contributed to this being a very memorable trip. He was prepared with everything we could possibly have needed: grips for our shoes, hand-warmers, a thermos of tea, snacks, extra gloves, ponchos, and more. We were the only ones on the tour, in addition to Lukas, a tour guide who was training. Another group had signed up, but we couldnt all fit in one vehicle, so they went in a separate van. We never saw them, so it was like having a private tour guide. After a week of temperatures with highs in the low forties, the morning of this trip we woke to snow and temps of 19 F. We were thrilled to see the scenery covered in snow. It was magical! Our first stop was Tisa. We hiked approximately two hours. Some of it was a bit strenuous and slippery. But we had no trouble. The massive sandstone columns were awesome and Marek took us to all the best viewpoints. He was very careful to point out slipperty spots and was sure we stayed safe. I gave my camera quite a workout. We continued driving along the Elba River to a charming village where we had a delicious lunch in a traditional Czech restaurant. I think he said it was from the late 1700s. We could order anything we wanted from the menu and were happy with our grilled chicken on vegetables. We continued on, crossing the border into Germany. The border control was closed, so we drove right through without needing to show our passports. It was interesting to be in a different country. We could see the difference in the quaint homes and shopsand of course, the language on the signs was different. The drive along the Elba River was very pretty. I had no idea what to expect from the Bastei Bridge, but it was a spectacular setting, and we learned there had been a settlement there in the Middle Ages. Artifacts were displayed. But the star of the tour was the bridge itself and that gorgeous scenery. It was bitte cold heheseriously freezing, but we walked to all the lookouts. Lots of slippery steps, but the handrails made it doableand the views were totally worth it. This was a fantastic day out of the city. We loved it and took some beautiful photos. The scenery was extremely unique and I would highly recommend doing it with Northern Hikes.

I could not recommend this tour enough. It was perfect from beginning to end. Our guide Pavla was so incredibly nice and friendly and also the customer service for Northern Hikes is one of the best I've come across. We went to Tisa first where Chronicles of Narnia was filmed and had an amazing hike around the rocks. We then had the most tasty meal in a local restaurant before going to the German side of the park and had incredible views of bastei bridge and surrounding areas. I would highly recommend this trip if you want to experience something a bit different and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Was definitely the highlight of our holiday!

If I could give this tour ten out of five stars I would. My tour guide Marek went above and beyond to ensure I had an excellent day. I was the only one booked to hike that day. I have had previous experiences with other tours where they've cancelled sometimes I had to call for confirmation due to being the only person on the tour. I got immediate confirmation when I booked this tour. I received packed snacks and water, and Marek was accommodating to my fairly slow pace bad back. I was greeted at my hotel lobby and the drive was informative and comfortable. The hike itself was extremely rewarding as I was greeted with magnificent views at the top. The included lunch at the restaurant was outstanding and was happy to have gone with Marek's suggestion. One of the best tours I've done. If you're visiting Prague, I highly recommend you take this trip out of the city and experience the natural wonders. Czech Rep has so much more to offer. Thank you for an excellent day!!
