Magic Mushroom Canyoning Tour

About this activity
Canyoning differs from cascading in that it involves rappelling and is therefore slightly more technical and a little slower paced. You will start the day meeting your guide at the pickup location in Cabarete and start out on a beautifully scenic 45-minute drive to the base camp.
At the base camp you will meet the other guides who will get you geared up in a wet suit, harness, helmet and life preserver. A quick safety briefing is followed by a 10-minutes drive to the canyon entrance. The trip starts with a couple of easy jumps before you come upon the highlight of the day, the Magic Mushroom itself. Two intense rappels are followed by some great jumps that can be walked around if you are just in it for the rappels. For adrenaline junkies the second rappel can be jumped at 45 feet (15 meters)!
After a couple of hours in the river and a 25-minute hike out to the transport you will be ready to head for lunch and the drive back to Caberete, arriving at around 2:30pm in the afternoon.

I never do tours and questioned the necessity of a guide. But this was so much fun and an experience I wouldnt have had other wise. Great value! Except for the photos, which are expensive

It took a little time for the guides to warm up, and we could have used a bit more information / communication on how the whole process worked. BUT, we just went with it and wound up having an absolute blast. Highly recommend for athletic folks who like a decent challenge. A quick easy breakfast sandwich and juice were served en route. After reaching the top of the mtn, you offload the van and get geared up in wetsuits and harnesses, then back into the van for another 10 minute ride. Next stop, leave your backpack behind, and you're walking downhill for probably 15 minutes. Wear high traction water shoes, and be prepared for super slick uneven footing underwater. The jumps are 30', 45', and 40', and the rappelling / zipline are super easy and fun. Halfway, we stopped for a snack and drinks. The water was gorgeous, and the rock and forest scenery breathtaking. The guides are VERY good at this, and entertaining in their descents and jumps. Once we reached the bottom, it was a long hike back up the mtn, probably around 20 mins . The beginning was very steep and takes decent strength and stamina, then it's fairly easy trails to the top. We were in a great group and completed the hike an hour early, so consider ourselves super lucky that everyone was well matched in skills. When we got back to the storefront, they fed us a simply delicious authentic Dominican meal w/ rice and beans, a cooked veggie stew I forget what they called it, spaghetti, chicken, and fresh avacados. Take a small towel and dry change of clothes and flip flops it felt good to get dry after all the wet. p.s. the photos and video they offer are well worth it, too. We loved this excursion, and highly recommend it!
