Puerto Plata: 3-Hour Trikke and Food Sightseeing Tour

About this activity
After meeting your local guide, you will have an opportunity to practice riding your trikke (it’s super easy, don’t worry!), as your guide gives you a bit of background on the city and explains why they love it so much.
We will glide down the Malecon promenade, an attractive 3-kilometre promenade where you’ll find delightful beaches, snack bars and local cafes. This is the epicentre of leisure for locals and is sure to charm you with its special atmosphere and stunning coastal views.
Strolling down the Malecon you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the street food Puerto Plata locals love and find out about the origins of these delicious treats.
After a refreshing coconut water, we’ll taste the local vinaigrette conch with the sounds of the ocean and the bachata and merengue rhythms playing softly in the background. Heaven!
Eventually, we’ll arrive at La Puntilla, where you can take some swoon-worthy holiday snaps of the ocean view. This is an interesting area and as well as the views, we’ll explore a cave, visit the new amphitheatre and marvel at the iconic San Felipe Fortress, the only colonial building left in Puerto Plata. We’ll also soak up the panoramas of Puerto Plata Harbour and the Isabel de Torres Mountain, which is usually covered in a blanket of silver clouds.
Next up is the historical district where we’ll discover colourful Victorian houses, antique buildings and perhaps most exciting of all, some of our favourite places to stop to try a delicious local treat. The sheer variety of delights on offer will be sure to amaze you: Arab-influenced sweets made of milk, coconut, pineapple and even sweet potatoes plus tasty fried quipe (often know as kibbeh — a deep-fried Bulgur roll).
The central park with its charming Victorian gazebo is next and it’s the perfect place to take some selfies and grab a refreshing artisanal ice cream. Here you’ll also find the country’s first fire station, and we’ll stop to appreciate the pretty Victorian architecture of this building.
After an incredible morning/afternoon of sightseeing, we want to ensure you don’t leave hungry so our final stop will be to sample of the island’s most famous and tastiest dishes: the pastelito (empanadas stuffed with chicken or beef). A cold local beer from the local colmado will also be on hand to refresh you and enhance your buzz.
After filling up on local food and beer, we’ll make our way back to where we met, which is where our tour ends. Before you go, don’t forget to ask your expert local guide for tips on what else to see, do and eat during your stay in Puerto Plata.
