The tour we booked was Petrohue Fall from Puerto Varas, code 12646P58 . The local tour operator for that tour was Ruta Chile. The first sign of trouble was that the night before, when I called to confirm an already confirmed tour the person on the phone told me that they weren't sure the tour was available. I told him I had reserved 6 weeks earlier and I expected the tour. He said he would check and call me back. He did call back and we were confirmed for a pickup the following morning. When we got into the bus, the guide welcomed us aboard and it turns out, they were not from Ruta Chile. The tour we were on was a tour of the waterfalls and the Osorno volcano. It was not the tour to Pescado River and the small community there. It was also not the tour to see the 20th century church nor the El Condor waterwheel nor Puerto Humos with the salmon smoking and time to sample. The tour did not include a visit to Ensenada nor the local restaurant el fogon de Pucara where we should have had lunch. In short, we got a tour that we did not book and even though the tour we got was ok, it was not what we had signed up for. We tried to talk to the guide about it and he said what did you want to see in Ensenada? and though we tried to explain that we had no idea what was to see in Ensenada beyond the description of the Viator website, he was not happy. How do you explain that our interest area was in the culinary and cultural aspects of the area? Of course we wanted to see the falls and it was nice to be up on the volcano but the most important point is that we did not choose the tour we had and that is a killer on holidays. Our time is so short that we have to make choices and the tour operator decided to ignore that.
