About this activity
Start the tour after meeting your guide at the fortress Shaniwarwada, the seat of the Peshwa rulers of Pune. There your guide will introduce you to the history of the city, and the way of life during the Maratha Empire. After a brief orientation, you will walk through the city and visit places of historical and cultural significance.

Stop at the temple of Kasba Ganpati, to see the Elephant God who is the patron deity of Pune. No new venture is started in Pune without this god’s blessings. Next see the Nana Wada, the estate of Nana Phadnavis, chief administrator of the Peshwa rulers of Pune.

Go to the Lal Mahal, the past home of Chhatrapati Shivaji. Then, visit Tulshibaug, and see the tall shikara of this traditional Vaishnavite temple. From the temple you can observe the homes and shops inside the courtyard, and see the popular local market for women’s costume jewellery, knick-knacks and more.

Experience the vibrant bustle of, Jyotiba Phule Mandai, Pune’s largest covered market selling vegetables, fruits, prayer paraphernalia, utensils, clothes and many other unique items.

See the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati temple which is a prime example of the pride and the honor of the city of Pune. Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati is the most endearing deity of the city. Stop at Bangle sellers lane, adjacent to Jyotiba Phule Mandai, to visit traditional bangle shops. Go to Burud Ali, to expedience Pune’s large community of basket makers.

The tour ends at Vishrambaug Wada, built by the last Peshwa Baji Rao II as a house of leisure. There’s a small shop inside Vishrambaug run by a local retailer that sells Eco-friendly handcrafted garments, ornaments and bags and more.
