Come along with us to discover the closest city from Punta Cana - Higuey!
The tour starts by taking an air conditioned bus or van from your hotel lobby. The expert tour guides will take you through the ancient, historic city of Higuey. Once there, we will visit San Dionicio Church, which is over 500 years old and built in 1512. We will also visit the Basilica of La Altagracia, built in the 1950's, and has been visited by people from all over the world. We will also take a shopping stop at a local handcraft gift shop. Right after, we will head to the countryside to visit a typical house, where you will have the opportunity to see the coffee and cocoa plantations. You will also learn the process to prepare them and taste local coffee, chocolate and exotic tropical fruits.
Not lunch is included in this tour. Sleeves and long pants or skirts are mandatory to enter the cathedral.

Viator tours providing service through local tours Mc travel and tours. However I believe a different agency showed up. I'm giving a rating of 3 primarily for being late and no English guide upon arrival. Our original time was 9 am. Later changed to 9:25 then to 9:50. Only to show up after 10 am. Upon guide arrived the trip ended up being very productive. The tour was a little less than 4 hours. The guide showed us how the Dominicans people pretty much live off the land agriculturally. By making coconut oil and other products. The meat market consist of cut up animals that was hung outside to dry. We were able to view 2 of the oldest churches and a local store for souvenirs. Visit a local family who sold several types of products. Some of them I believe we're over priced. But very nice family. Be wear of bugs because there were everywhere. Some of the members were cutting up coconut to be processed. Very interesting trip! Especially if you are interested in learning about the people and culture. Higuey is about a 45 minute drive from Punta Cana. Improvements needed is to have an English speaking guide available for the duration of the trip. Riding 45 minutes with empty space was a little wasted. No water or refreshments provided on our trip. Maybe because it's a new itinerary.
