Compared with those capital cities or other large and medium-size cities in China, Jinan has few advantages and lacks a metropolitan atmosphere, the highlight being its numerous springs.

Baotu Spring is located in the center of Baotu Spring Park and is renowned as the best of the 72 springs in Jinan. Since ancient times, many famous poems and prose have been written relating to its unique beauty. According to legend, Emperor Qianglong of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) took some water from Beijing’s Jade Spring on his way to the southern Yangtze River, and drank from Baotu Spring during a stopover in Jinan. He highly favored the latter and dubbed it “number one spring under heaven.”

Daming lake is located in the center of Daming lake park, which is a natural lake formed from many springs. The six islands in Daming Lake contain flowers, trees and other plants flourishing amongst the various pavilions.

In summer, lotuses bloom uninhibitedly filling half of Daming Lake Park with its fragrant scent. At the same time, willows circle the lake on three sides and swing with the breeze, a scene for which Daming Lake is famous. The centerpiece of the lake is a great man-made hectometer fountain built in 1985. The fountain has 103 injectors, and the main injector can spout water as high as 100 meters (about 328 feet) in all its majesty.

Baihuazhou, which literally means “Hundred Flower Pond,” is a great place to visit. The stunning renovated block that stands behind the pond hearkens to ancient life in China. The block is composed of several small and big courtyards with small ponds surrounded by beautiful buildings.

Some buildings exhibit items that were collected over the years and preserve the history of the city. Others demonstrate ancient traditional activities like paper making, Spring Tofu making and Kungfu Class, you can spend one hour here to experience Chinese culture.
