About this activity
Your trip to amazing Milford Sound should be done in style from land, sea, and sky! Our mid-sized coach has a glass roof for the best viewing, and its smaller provides a personalised experience. Our cruise boat is one of the smallest and most intimate on the fiord too. Fly back on board a small plane to really take in the beauty of this region. Our expert driver/guides know this region inside out and will choose the best photo stops & short walks along the way. Expect a very interesting commentary about the region from our guides on the coach and the cruise boat With a well-deserved reputation as one of the worlds most spectacular fiords, Milford Sound is located 50 kilometers north-west of Queenstown as the crow flies but 300 km by road. This 22-km long fiord is situated in a magnificent alpine landscape in the World Heritage Fiordland National Park. Travel from Queenstown along the shoreline of Lake Wakatipu. Your deluxe coach will feature a glass roof on most departures to take the best advantage of the stunning alpine scenery - the coach also has amazing leg room! Journey past the dramatic peaks of the Remarkables mountain range to Te Anau, the "Gateway to Fiordland", where a morning tea stop will be made. Next, travel Milford Road featuring some of the most stunning scenery in the world - towering snow-capped mountains, magnificent rainforests, and spectacular waterfalls. Photo stops will be made along the way. Before descending into Milford Sound, travel through the Homer Tunnel - carved through the solid rock of a mountain. When you reach Milford Sound, board a 1hr 45-minute boutique boat cruise taking you past Mitre Peak which rises from the ocean floor to 1 mile above sea level. View spectacular Bowen Waterfall, cascading down its huge rock face. Keep an eye out for the dolphins, seals, and penguins that live in this wonderful location. You will be given a picnic style lunch box which can eat on board the cruise. Take an intense 45-minute flight back to Queenstown. Every seat on board the plane is a window seat providing you with a grand scenic view of New Zealand's beautiful mountains, glaciers, lakes and rainforests. From here you can really see how grand the geography of South Westland really is. Upon return to Queenstown, a shuttle will pick you up drive you to your hotel.
