This is the central square of the city and one of the symbols of the executive power of the nation. Its main feature is the monument to the independence heroes of August 10, 1809, date remembered as the First Cry of Independence of the Royal Audience of Quito from Spanish monarchy.

Stop At: Intinan Museum, Autopista Manuel Cordova Galarza, a 200 metros del redondel de la Mitad del Mundo, San Antonio de Pichincha, Quito 170180 Ecuador
Although there are only a few actual exhibits, they are well done. They focus on the native tribes of Ecuador, including the Shuar and the Woaranis. There are some replicas of typical houses of some of the tribes...one complete with a live guinea pig farm. But the real fun comes from different activities. We missed out on the sundial because it was cloudy the day we went. It would be especially interesting to go during an equinox or solstice
