About this activity
During this tour you will go off the beaten path and you will see Quito from a local perspective and get to experience daily life in Quito! Pick up from your hotel. We drive to the Iñaquito local market where we will be able to see the huge diversity of tropical fruits, vegetables, grains, medicinal plants and local food stalls. At these food stalls you will get to see all kind of local dishes like “fritada” (fried pork) or delicious juices made of blackberry, guanábana and tamarillo. If you want you can try the different tropical fruits and your guide will give you explanations about all these fruits and vegetables. After this interesting visit we continue to one of the oldest bakeries of Quito. They are most known for their dessert “quesadillas” and you will be able to try them and see how they are made. Afterwards we will visit a small family owned confectionary where they make the delicious traditional sweets of Quito. They will show us how they make the sweets and of course we can taste these delicacies as well. We end this amazing tour with a cooking class in a Spanish-style courtyard. Before the cooking class you will receive a mini recipe book with the recipes of the three dishes you will prepare. The recipes you will prepare are traditional Ecuadorian dishes: Locro Quiteño, Encocado and a desert made with Ecuadorian chocolate. We chose for these three recipes because the ingredients can be found all over the world, so you will be able to prepare it back home. During the cooking class the chef will be there guiding you, and you will peel, cut and season. He will give explanations about the history of each dish and its origin and your guide will translate everything for you. After the cooking class you will be able to taste the delicious result of your self-made dishes!! Buen provecho!
