We are no really into modern art that much, so the first part of the day Francisco Brennand was pretty much wasted on us. However, his studio is on the grounds of a lovely estate and housed in an old clay tile factory. It was great to see the old buildings adapted and re-used to create an open, flowing studio, rather tan be torn down. The second part of the day Ricardo Brennand was all about European art and area history--LOVED it!! Apparently the man was such a passionate collector of European artifacts, he felt the need to build a castle to house it, then a second for his swords, knives and armor. Then some outbuildings in the same style, for admin, restaurant and events. The big castle has documents and books from the founding of the city of Recife, art from dissolved monasteries and beautiful statuary. It is an amazing complex!! Our only complaint was the 90-mins we were allotted was not nearly enough time!!.
