About this activity

With this Champagne day tour in Epernay, you will discover the famous region of Champagne.

You will be picked up at 9 am and leave for a scenic drive through the route du Champagne. Picturesque villages, spectacular vineyards, your tour guide will share his knowledge and explain the concept of “ French terroir”: the grape varieties, the importance of the soil, the pruning, the climate, the sun exposition, etc.... You will stop in the quaint village of Hautvillers for a tour of the abbey where you will discover the tomb of Dom Perignon, a monk who contributed to the process of the champagne making.

You will then arrive to Epernay, also called the "Capital of Champagne". Epernay’s Avenue de Champagne is where the most prestigious Maisons de Champagne are located, for example Moët &Chandon, Perrier-Jouet, Mercier, and much more.

You will start your guided tour and tasting at Moët & Chandon. The House was founded in 1743 by Claude Möet. Discover everything about the Champagne making: the grape varieties, the blending, the double fermentation etc You will be amazed at the length of the limestone galleries, ideal place to age the champagne.

After the visit, you will arrive in a small boutique winery and try the local region specialties and pair them with different Champagne: blanc de blancs (champagne made from chardonnay), blancs de noir (champagne made from pinot noir) or rosé. A tasting is also planned in a small family estate.

Outside the world famous grandes Maisons de Champagne, there are more than 4 000 family winemakers who contribute to the prestige of Champagne from generation to generation.

You will be back at around 5pm at Reims Train Station forecourt.
