Itinerary

Day 1: Introduction to The South Coast

Stop At: Troll Expeditions, Fiskislod 45-G, Reykjavik 101 Iceland
We start with pick up from Reykjavík, either your hotel or your closest bus stop.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Seljalandsfoss, Hella Iceland
We head to the South and visit the powerful theatrics of Seljalandsfoss. Bring a raincoat and you'll be able to make the short hike behind the falls.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Skogafoss, Skogar Iceland
Tucked in a little gorge, the river Skógá tumbles down a 60 meter cliff before continuing down the landscape towards the Atlantic Ocean. Alongside the gorge is a staircase that can take you up to the shelf above the waterfall for stunning views.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Skaftafell National Park, Vatnajokull National Park 785 Iceland
We will hike an outlet glacier spawning from one of the largest glaciers in the country. After meeting out highly trained glacier guides and strapping on safety equipment you will hike on the ice for an hour and a half.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Skaftafell National Park, Vatnajokull National Park 785 Iceland
Our journey on ice continues as we will experience the blue ice cave in Skaftafell. Your guide will share with you his expertise about the ice caves, allowing you to truly appreciate this amazing natural phenomenon.
Duration: 30 minutes

Day 2: Travelling further east

Stop At: Glacier Lagoon, Skaftafell National Park Route 1, Jokulsarlon 781 Iceland
Heading off day number 2 is Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, a 200m deep lagoon fed by Breiðarmerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of Europe's largest glacier. Enormous icebergs come from the glacier all year around so the lagoon is usually filled with ice that floats South. Try walking alongside the glacier lagoon enjoying the magnificent views.

Stop At: Diamond Beach, Diamond Head Drive Glacier Lagoon Jokulsarlon, Jokulsarlon Iceland
On the other side of the road the ice bergs from Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon float into the Atlantic Ocean where they are quickly thrown back to shore by the tide and winds. This black sand beach is full of smaller ice rocks in all shapes and sizes, sparkling like diamonds in the daylight.
Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Reynisfjara Beach, Route 215, Vik Iceland
The Black Sand Beach of Reynisfjara where the Atlantic coastline presents massive waves hitting the unique basalt columns in the cliffs above the sand. Rock pillars in water and the cliffs of Dýrhóley are seen in the distance. This area of the South is also a paradise for bird lovers, as puffins and dozens of other unique species nest on top of these cliffs in the summertime from June to August.

  • The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed by the operator. The hotels are in prime locations to maximize chances of seeing them.
  • The limit is 24″ suitcase per person, and no multiple luggage allowed. If there is limited space in the car you might need to leave part of your luggage in our luggage storage, free of charge.
  • Please contact us regarding pick up. There are some hotels where buses are not allowed to drive. You can find information about designated pick up locations at busstop.is or ask the front desk of your hotel. Pick up from Keflavík airport or outside of the greater capital area is not available.
  • We recommend you bring hiking boots with slip-resistant soles if you are visiting in the winter. Hiking boots are available at the time of booking.
  • Ice caves are a dynamic natural phenomena only accessible during wintertime when temperatures drop. Each year new unique caves are formed in different areas of the glacier. We visit a naturally formed ice cave during this tour. The photos are from this winter season, but the cave and other formations we visit might have changed due to the nature of formations.
