2 Day Snæfellsnes Tour Lava Caving and the Northern Lights
Experience the charming Snæfellsnes in this two day exscursion that takes you to the highlights of the peninsula, which often is referred to as miniature Iceland, for its diverse landscape. You will be taken to places like geothermal areas, glaciers, caves, volcanoes, coastlines and cultural sites as well as whitnessing the diverse bird and sea life in the area.
The journey starts when our guide picks you up at your accommodation in Reykjavík and you will be taken in a minibus towards Snæfellsnes through the beautiful Hvalfjörður. During the first stop you will witness the highest flowing hot spring in Europe, Deildartunguhver as well as seeing waterfalls, geological formations and the small town of Reykholt.
During the evening you will reach your accommodation on Snæfellsnes peninsula, where you will see the glacier Snæfellsjökull in clear weather. The breathtaking Northern Light might grace you with their presence at night so you will have the opportunity yo go hunting for the lights before hugging the pillow.
During the second day you will see the Snæfellsjökull even closer, which inspired Jules Verne’s novel “Journey to the Centre of the Earth”. You will see the enormous ravine called Rauðfellsgjá as well as exploring black sand beaches, ancient fishing villages and lava fields. You will enter a 7000 year old lava cave, Vatnshellir and visit the breathtaking Kirkjufell mountain.
On the scenic route back to Reykjavik you will visit beautiful fjords and drive through the historical lava field Berserkjahraun.
In the evening you will arrive to your accommodation in Reykjavík after the delightful experience of exploring the breathtakingly beautiful nature of “miniature Iceland”.
