Day 2: Silver Circle and Krauma Geothermal Baths

Pass By: Snorralaug, Reykholt, Borgarbyggd Iceland
The day starts with a visit to Reykholt, one Iceland’s most notable historical sites. Reykholt is most famous for being the home of Iceland’s best-known author Snorri Sturluson during the years 1206-1241. An ancient geothermally-heated pool, Snorralaug, is named after him. It is one of the few things preserved whole from Iceland´s medieval period. Thanks to Snorri’s writings we know about the mythology and religion of the Viking people.

Stop At: Hraunfossar, Road 518, Husafell 311 Iceland
Then head on to Hraunfossar waterfalls, or Lava Falls – a beautiful and unusual natural phenomena. Clear, cold springs of subterranean water seep through the lava and ripple down as tiny waterfalls and rapids into the Hvita River. A series of scenic footpaths takes you to different viewpoints around the waterfalls.
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Barnafoss, Mooruvallavegur Möðruvellir 5, Reykholt, Borgarbyggd Iceland
Also in the area is Barnafoss, the Children’s Falls. The water here is a brilliantly blue color. The falls are named after a sad incident that took place here long ago.
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Deildartunguhver Thermal Spring, Road 50, Reykholt Iceland
Next head to Deildartunguhver hot spring, Europe´s most powerful hot spring. The water rushes by rapidly at a speed of 180 liters (48 gallons) per second.
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Krauma, Deildartunguhver West Region, Reykholt 320 Iceland
Right next to Deildartunguhver is Krauma Geothermal Baths. The spa’s hot water comes from Deildartunguhver, at a temperature of 100°C (212°F). To achieve the perfect bathing temperature Krauma mixes the hot water with cold water from Ok glacier, the smallest glacier in Iceland. Krauma offers five relaxing natural geothermal baths, a cold tub to get your blood circulation going, two calming saunas and a relaxation room where you can rest by the fireplace while listening to soothing music. Krauma’s restaurant has a real West Icelandic focus with vegetables, dairy products and meat from area farms.
