About this activity
Day 1 – The classic Golden Circle and the Kerid Volcanic Crater

Your day starts by driving from Reykjavik to the historic site of Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet which creates an amazing feeling having one foot in each world!

You will then travel onwards to the world famous site of the hot spring Geysir. Known throughout the world for it´s power and beauty, Geysir has become a synonym for this amazing show of nature. Strokkur, another hot spring, sits nearby and is very active, erupting to heights up to 30 meters every few minutes. In the Geysir area you will also have time to buy lunch.

Next on the agenda is the waterfall Gullfoss – the golden waterfall. One of the most popular tourist attractions is Iceland, Gullfoss will amaze you with it´s raw power and beauty, plummeting down 32 meters into a rugged canyon.

These three attractions complete the classic Golden Circle – but to add even more to your experience – we also stop at the spectacular Kerid Volcanic Crater. This 3000 year old crater is 55 meters deep and offers a unique view of the Icelandic nature. Admission to the Kerid is included.

Day 2 – South Coast, Waterfalls and Glacier Hike

We start with visiting the two great waterfalls of the south coast, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, as well as visiting lesser known, more secret waterfalls Glufrabui, Kvernufoss and Irafoss.

As we continue we will drive under the great Eyjafjallajökull glacier volcano and the Mýrdalsjökull glacier cap, where we take a Glacier Hike for about 1,5 hours on the Solheimajokull glacier. All necessary safety equipment is provided.

A bit further is the great Reynisfjara beach, where the sea crashes upon black sands.

We will be staying overnight in a Nicehostel Seljaland, a very cosy accommodation close to the famous Seljalandsfoss.

Day 3 – The amazing Glacier lagoon and Skaftafell National park

Today, you will take a close look at majestic glaciers and lagoons. After a stop in the lovely village of Vik we drive to the East where we visit the National park in Skaftafell. where guests can also buy lunch.

Then we head to the amazing Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon where you will have a boat tour, sailing on the lagoon. The lagoon is full of huge chunks of ice which crack off Breiðamerkurjökull glacier and float slowly out to sea. Some icebergs wash on shore, lying on the vivid black sand like diamonds on satin. There is a good possibility of seeing seals swimming around the huge icebergs.

After enjoying this wonderful experience we head back in the afternoon towards Reykjavik where we estimate to arrive around 21:15 (09:15pm).

This tour was really good and our driver/guide Michael was great. We enjoyed every part of this trip, from the glacier hike, to the water falls, to the crater, the boat tour, and the Geysir. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone wanting to see the country who only has a short time to do so. Just be prepared for the rainy weather with jacket, pants and good hiking shoes that are waterproof.

I went on the 3 day tour- Golden Circle, South Coast, Glacier Hike and Boat Tour as a solo traveler and I met some awesome people on this tour The group for this tour was very small- maybe 15 people on the first day (combined tour with another group) and only 3-4 of us on the 2nd and 3rd day. It felt like we had our own private tour. The bus drivers are Icelandic and share interesting information about the history of Iceland during our tour. I liked that they made sure that we were able to see all of the beautiful sites and brought us to more sites when we had extra time. They were very friendly, considerate and helpful. For the two nights, we stayed at a guest house called Nice Hostel. Nice is also the name of the tour company that drove us. Nice Hostel is like a small guesthouse...with multiple rooms and shared bathrooms. It has a sitting area where you can relax on the couch, eat, drink coffee, etc. It's located next to a beautiful waterfall and also has a kitchen for guests. The owner is very friendly and will make you feel at home. He cooks a delicious traditional lamb soup and also makes pizzas. A continental breakfast is included as well. The guest house is a bit isolated, so you will need to bring your own food if you want to cook. I was so amazed by the beauty of Iceland. There are waterfalls and cliffs everywhere and it is so green. The trIp to the glaciers, the black sand beach and glacier lagoon were incredible. It rained at times during our trip. Hiking boots and waterproof jacket/pants are a necessity. I felt that we saw so many incredible sites in just 3 days and this was only the south coast of Iceland. Definitely worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
