About this activity
We will pick you up at your selected pick up location, at a timing of your choosing. Keep in mind that the total duration of the Golden circle tour is between 8 and 10 hours, and during winter months we have limited daylight to work with.
The first stop of the day is at Thingvellir national park. There you will marvel at the geological energy, where you see the rift valley where the country is being ripped apart, slowly and steadily each year.
Next stop is at Geysir geothermal area, where the bubbling mud pools and spouting geysers bear witness to another type of geological marvel; the boiling hot water underneath your feet. Icelanders harness the power of this hot water by using it for house heating, agriculture and of course bathing in it. But don't bring a swim suit for this trip, you will not be able to bathe in these geothermal waters!
Now it is time to head off the beaten path and go off road. We will stick to mountain roads and paths, winding our way up to Langjökull glacier. We leave the hot geology behind, and experience the icy cool wonders of the ice cap, as we bump and grind our way as high up as we can.
Once we return back to more solid ground, it is time to stop by Gullfoss waterfall. Here you will witness the incredible energy a melting glacier can create, because Hvítá river stems from many natural springs and the melt from the glacier you just visited. Combined, they create this magnificent, powerful waterfall.
We will return to Reykjavik at the end of the trip, dropping you off wherever you like within the city.
