About this activity
Northern Lights Viewing Cruise from Reykjavik (2.5 Hours)
Start with a nighttime pickup from your hotel, then board a cruise boat and set off from Reykjavik's coast toward Faxaflói Bay for your once-in-a-lifetime Northern Lights experience. Also known as the Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights are triggered by magnetic storms that paint ribbons of green, blue, yellow, purple and red in the sky.
Pull on a pair of provided overalls, then find a comfortable spot in the viewing area. As your boat cuts through the waters, gaze around you at the darkness-cloaked landscape, and listen to your guide share fascinating facts about the lights, as well as the legends that surround them.
Sightings cannot be guaranteed as they’re dependent on weather, location and chance, but with luck and a cloudless sky, you may catch a mesmerizing show. Should you wish, warm yourself up with hot chocolate, tea and chocolate (own expense) while you keep watch.
After 2.5 hours, your tour ends with a drop-off back at your hotel. If the cruise is canceled due to poor weather conditions, you’ll be given the option of attending the cruise on an alternative date.
Whale-Watching Tour from Reykjavik (3.5 Hours)
Begin with a hotel pickup and then travel to Reykjavik’s Old Harbor. On arrival, board your comfortable, whale-watching boat and take a seat on deck. Pull on a pair of overalls to shield you from the cold, and listen as your guide explains what marine life you can expect to see during your cruise.
As your boat slips away from shore and out onto the open waters of Faxaflói Bay, look out for harbor porpoises, white-beaked dolphins, minke whales and humpback whales. With up to 90% whale-spotting success, this cruise offers a fantastic chance to see whales. In the unlikely event that you don’t spot a whale, you will receive a complimentary ticket for another boat ride.
If you feel cold during your cruise, seek refuge inside the cozy viewing area, where you can thaw out with hot chocolate, coffee, tea and snacks (own expense). After your cruise, your experience concludes with a drop-off back at your hotel.
Please note: You can choose to take the tours on the same day, or across separate days during your Iceland vacation.

Whale watching Brilliant saw 5 minki whales unfortunatley didnt get to do the northern lights part of the tour as it was rough sea or cloudy all the time we were there.
We didn't see any whales and all members of my party vomited. Felt like 3.5 hours of torture. They said we could go again but there was no way we were getting back on that boat! We had been warned of rough waters but the trip should have just been cancelled so that we could get a refund.
Really good tour especially as the tour guides were extremely informative. Even though we did not see any wildlife on our whale watching tour, I would still rate this trip 5 star due to the fact that it is not the company's fault that the whales did not come out to play but they have offered us an open expiration for another tour if we go back to Iceland. It was a nice day trip and evening trip especially as we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights!
This tour company has a great reputation with the local community of Reykjavik "old harbor" and it shows in the quality and professionalism throughout the entire crew. Easy to find, great guide that is well educated and no matter where you wandered on all decks you could hear him perfectly. AWESOME
