About this activity
Why You Shouldn’t Miss This

One of the largest glacier lakes in Iceland, Jokulsarlon was formed when the glacier began to recede from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Its size has increased to nearly 4 times of that in the 70s. Some of the most famous movies, such as the James Bond thrillers Die Another Day, A View to a Kill, the superhero film Batman Begins and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider have had certain sections shot here. Since the premiere of the Bond flick A View to a Kill, commercial boat cruises around the lake have been popular. Presently, the company operating the boat tours employ approximately 30 semi-permanent employees. Around 70,000 people travel on these boats every year.
Seljalandsfoss is one of the renowned waterfalls of Iceland. What makes this special is that steps lead to a path behind the waterfalls, obscured from view. It originates from a glacier-capped volcano, Eyjafjallajökull. The Vik village is the southernmost inhabited region of Iceland. Although it has only 300 residents, a number of cafes, restaurants and souvenir stores are run by the occupants for the numerous visitors and tourists that frequent this beautiful village.

Your Experience

Your tour will begin with you passing by dark beaches, lava fields, gleaming glaciers and resplendent lakes. At the Glacier Lagoon, you can walk down the picturesque Diamond beach. The glassy glaciers and the black beaches are a stunning contrast and the sights before you seem to be out of a magazine cover. Diverse fauna can be seen on the Jokulsarlon Glacier. Seals can be seen at the mouth of the lake, as they try to catch fish from the water. Arctic terns and Skua can be found flying over the lake, in search of fish. Trouts, salmon, herrings, and krill can be found in the water. On the shore, you can catch sight of the Skua nests. Although skuas look harmless, be wary of them. They are known to not be afraid of humans and will not hesitate from attacking you in case they feel threatened! If you have chosen the boat ride variant, you can enjoy a relaxing cruise over the serene lake. You might even see ice breaking off from the glacier and making its way to the Atlantic, a scene that would worthy of a painting.
Next up is a visit to the Vik village. The iconic red-roofed church is something you mustn't miss. The serenity of this quiet village, away from the hubbub and clamor of the city is something that you will be able to appreciate. Finally, you will move onto the Seljalandsfoss waterfall. The view of the waterfall from behind is something that is rarely seen elsewhere and is a unique experience. The beauty of Iceland can be summed up as you set your sights on this attraction. The enormous amount of spraying water can sometimes form rainbows on sunny days. You will then be taken back to your hotel room, and your 14-hour tour will conclude.
