About this activity
Meet your guide at the local operator's bus terminal or alternatively, start your evening with a pickup from your Reykjavik hotel. Then, head off by bus to discover the city’s legendary New Year’s Eve celebrations. Few places in the world rival the atmosphere of New Year’s Eve in Reykjavik, when the city pulls out all the stops for its single biggest night of the year. Every neighborhood of the city has a bonfire on New Year’s Eve, and your guide will tell you about the the tradition behind the bonfires, as well as customs and myths that surround this holiday in Iceland.

After seeing the city's roaring bonfires crackle and spit against the frosty buildings and dark night sky, visit one of the major bonfires with your guide. Having enjoyed the party atmosphere around the bonfire, visit a nearby viewing spot for a hot drink and warm your hands from the Icelandic cold.

While there are lots of small fireworks displays throughout the evening, Reykjavik’s New Year’s Eve crowd-puller is the fireworks extravaganza that starts around 11:30pm and lasts until well after midnight. Travel by bus to one of the city’s finest viewpoints, and then countdown to midnight alongside the locals to see the city erupt in a dazzling fireworks display set against the backdrop of Reykjavik’s wintery streets.

Ring in the New Year in Iceland’s capital with a glass of sparkling wine. After enjoying the party for roughly an hour after midnight, your tour finishes with a drop off at or near your hotel.

Drinking a glass of Prosecco in a parking lot without access to facilities for 1.5 hrs is NOT ideal. I had been expecting same as last year when we were IN the Perlan, not just the parking lot.

I would go back to Iceland for NYE because it was absolutely AMAZING! The neighborhood bonefire was so much fun with so many people from so many countries singing and celebrating together! The locals were extremely friendly! Viewing the fireworks from the museum high on the hill was breathtaking. Being outside on the 4th flour deck with a wrap around deck was perfect! There was a 360 degree view of fireworks going off around the city for over 40 minutes. It was by far the BEST New Year's Eve I ever exerienced. I would only celebrate NYE in Iceland if I could do the tour again.

This was amazing. I didn’t know what to expect, but New Years in Iceland is crazy! Worth it for the view of Reykjavik with almost 360 degree fireworks.

This is a must do for New Years Eve...to see the magnitude that the city of Reykjavik explodes in colors with fireworks is truly breathtaking. The party that accompanies it is a nice gathering of fellow travelors.

Bonfire - definitely cool, but you could just take a cab yourself. The fireworks - beyond cool. A shouldn't miss. Fireworks everywhere in the city and a pretty decent viewing location. BUT, the nearly two hours between was not managed well - people were sitting on floors, on stairs, just standing around and waiting for the fire works. The tour has a big void in the middle, which should be better filled with something more than free coffee. Come on guys - make the evening the event that it should be don't just drive us around and make us wait between the city's events.

Glad not to have to drive but was like a cattle car.

This tour was so much more than we expected, following a visit to bonfire and fireworks we were taken to The Perlon and watched the whole of Reykjavik from a balcony, fireworks and celebrations for 2 hours with a couple of glasses of bubbly included.
