About this activity
Your private guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Reykjavik and drive you to the first site on the Golden Circle: the UNESCO World Heritage Site Þingvellir. Þingvellir National Park is protected due to its unique geology and natural features. It is also a key location in Icelandic history as the oldest existing parliament in the world - the Viking parliament - first assembled there in 930 AD.
After exploring the park you will visit the highly active geyser hot spring area with its boiling mud pits and the lively Strokkur which spouts water 30 meters (100 feet) into the air every few minutes.
The next highlight, and last stop on the Golden Circle is the iconic waterfall Gullfoss. Gullfoss means 'golden falls' because the glacial sediment in the water turns the falls golden in the sunlight. On a sunny day you can often see a shimmering rainbow over the falls. The water fall is 32 meters (105 feet) high. You can stand at the top or walk down the path to the bottom.
Afterwards you will visit the 'Secret Lagoon' - Iceland's oldest swimming pool, filled with thermal water from the nearby hot springs and surrounded by mountain scenery, it makes for a very relaxing experience. The pool is kept natural and unique in order to get the true Icelandic experience, however there are modern changing facilities available. Spend some time bathing in the warm, relaxing waters.
In the late afternoon your private guide will drive you back to Reykjavik.
