Stop At: North Sailing, Husavik Harbour, Husavik 640 Iceland

You will meet the crew of Opal up to 30 minutes before departure at Reykjavík Harbour, just a 10-minute walk from the city centre. After introductions and a chance to learn about the boat, you will be given a thermal suit (if you want) to keep you warm. The captain will take the boat out of the harbour and you will have the chance to get involved with hoisting the sails – or just sit back with a hot drink and let the others do the work!

Opal is a traditional oak sailing boat, fitted with a first of its kind hybrid electric engine that allows us not only to glide silently through the water but also to minimize our impact on the environment by using renewable electricity. In true Viking-style we set sail into the polar night while stars and the northern lights dance over our heads (if the weather conditions are on our side).

Make sure to bring your swimming things so that you can take the opportunity to luxuriate in the hot tub on deck – there’s nothing quite like floating in hot water with a beer in hand while looking up at an arctic sky.

Finally get a taste of boat life by the wood fire and enjoy surprise refreshments from the crew, before disembarking happy back at the harbour.
