About this activity
Enjoy an exciting scuba diving adventure in Silfra one of the world's most unique freshwater scuba diving sites! Iceland's famous Thingvellir National Park is home to the Silfra fissure. The Silfra is home to a continental rift between Northern American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This is an unforgettable scuba diving experience in a one of a kind subaquatic rift. This is without doubt one of the best places in the world for scuba diving. If you are a dry suit scuba diving enthusiast, be sure not to miss out on this expedition! Silfra fissure in Iceland has become more and more popular over the years. Divers agree that this is one of the best freshwater dive sites in the world. Glacier water from Langjökull glacier that has been filtered through the lava field on its 50 years long journey to the fissure is crystal clear allowing visibility for about 100 meters. Throughout this tour we will explore the four main sections of the Silfra. The Silfra's water is at a constant 2-4 degree celsius all year round, but each season has a distinctive character beneath the surface. Located in the heart of Þingvellir National Park, Silfra is where the world’s oldest parliament was first founded, and it's also a UNESCO world heritage site. Silfra is an otherworldly scene situated in the lava field directly on top of the continental rift valley between North America and Europe. Usually one does not want to be between tectonic plates but in the case of Silfra, you want nothing more. Enjoy the feeling of weightlessly floating through the crystal clear glacier water flowing between the tectonic plates. The slow current's pace is perfect and gives you time to explore all that this stunning area has to offer. The freshwater visibility is unlike anywhere else in the world, so wide and long that sometimes it is only limited by the density of the water itself. Depth varies from 10 to 40 meters. Please note this is a challenging dive and you need to be capable of carrying heavy equipment up to 400m.
