South Coast Day Tour
Pick up at your hotel or airbnb around 7.30 AM, or meet us at Harpa Opera House at 7.50 AM.
Seljalandsfoss Waterfall: Seljalandsfoss is a 60 m high waterfall, beautifully located and absolutely unique. A path takes you around the waterfall, so you can walk behind it and enjoy an unique view. On very cold days the path can be closed because of ice, but you'll have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful icy landscape.
Skógafoss Waterfall: Skógafoss is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. It is also 60 m high and about 25 m wide. Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss are both in glacier rivers, the meltwater from Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. Eyjafjallajökull is famous for it´s massive 2010 volcanic eruption that disrupted air traffic in Europe.
Sólheimajökull Glacier: Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier, flowing out of the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull. Underneath Mýrdalsjökull lays the famous volcano Katla. Glaciers are retreating and disappearing around us on an unprecedented rate globally. It is predicted that in few decades the glaciers will all be gone here. Are we one of the last generations to touch and walk on glaciers?
Reynisdrangar and the Black Beach: Iceland is a volcanic island, made up of mainly basaltic material that is black in color. Hence, the "Black Beaches". The Black Beach was ranked in 1991 as one of the ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world. On the beach there are the remarkable basalt columns. Reynisdrangar is a seastack, a geological formation made by wave erosion of surrounding material.
Vík: The village of Vík is a small village south of Mýrdalsjökull glacier. A visit to Vík is the perfect end of our amazing tour in the south.
