About this activity
We will pick you up at your selected pick up location, at a timing of your choosing. Keep in mind that the total duration of the tour is between 8 and 10 hours, and during winter months we have limited daylight to work with.
Our first stop of the day is at Deildartunguhver hot spring. It is not like the geysers of Geysir geothermal area, where the hot air spouts dozens of meters in the air. It is much more powerful, and much hotter, but also more relaxed and beautiful. Right next to Deildartunguhver you will see Krauma geothermal spa - ask your driver if there is time to stop there for a good meal, or a quick bath (not included).
Next up is Barnafoss and Hraunfossar waterfalls. Hraunfossar is a veil of hundreds of little streams, trickling down the lava cliff, seemingly out of thin air. Barnafoss is a more powerful waterfall, with ominous folklore behind it.
We will make a stop at Húsafell woodlands, to stretch our legs, use the bathroom and stock up on snacks for the highland part of the trip. Next up is Langjökull glacier, Iceland's second largest glacier. On good days, the view from up there seems to stretch infinitely, and the ride is always a thrill.
When Kaldidalur highland road is passable, during peak ice season and good summer season, we will drive this highland desert back towards Reykjavik. At the far end of the desert, we will reach Thingvellir national park, where we will stop if we can.
