About this activity
Lead by a professional guide, this 2-hour tour follows the footsteps of one of our greatest presidents in history Abraham Lincoln, when he and his son Tad visited Richmond in April, 1865 after the burning of Richmond and just a few days before General Robert E Lee's surrender at Appomattox.
Richmond was Lincoln's last public appearance before his assassination on April 14th. The tour will start down by the river at the site of Libby Prison which is close to where Lincoln and his son would have initially stepped ashore and were welcomed by former slaves and other people eager to shake this great man's hand. Other notable sites included are Main Street Market, Main Street Station, the Locks, White House of the Confederacy, and our State Capitol.
Hear the emotional stories of Lincoln’s welcome to Richmond by the African American community.
