Hundreds of Jewish refugees, from Latvia and Lithuania, were forced to the basement of Synagogue which was later intentionally burned to the ground. From this horrible past event, only ruins, a metal menorah, and memorial stone are left. 4th July, in Latvia, is still remembered, by a mark in a calendar, to honor and remember victims of the Holocaust. Since October 1990 Latvia has held an official commemoration event.
