About this activity
Rome Countryside tour a beautiful quiet non touristy area of Italy, just a stone's throw from the ancient city of Rome. This landscape is a tapestry of olive groves, vineyards and ancient hilltop villages, rich in medieval architecture and tradition. There is so much to do: view panoramic mountains, clear streams and picturesque olive groves, see medieval castles, stunning hilltop villages and ancient monasteries. Sample the world-renowned Sabina or Frascati olive oil and local wines.
You will drive on the famous ancient Appian way passing by the Catacombs and the ruins of one of the 11 aqueducts built during the Roman Empire. Once you arrive up on the hills you will visit the small charming medieval towns of Nemi, Castel Gandolfo with a beautiful view of Lake Albano.
Besides being right above the lake Castelgandolfo is also the town of the summer residence of the Pope. Every year around June the Pope moves here for the summer period, picturesque is the main square of this town with a strong architectural influence of the artist Bernini.
In this area you will find one of the oldest and most famous restaurant of the area with one of the largest wine collection called Pagnanelli, owned by the same family since the 1882, great for wine tasting and cooking classes.
