Stop At: Sistine Chapel, Vatican City, Lazio
Enjoy an eye opening and informative tour of the Vatican, including the world famous Sistine Chapel, the amazing Vatican Museum and the awe-inspiring St Peter's Basilica as part of your cruise transfer from the Port to your central Rome Hotel. Immerse yourself in the incredible works of art and architecture.
This tour will actually take you into another country – the Vatican City, the smallest sovereign state in the world. From here you will be taken on a guided tour of the world famous Sistine Chapel, Gallery of Candelabra, Gallery of Tapestries and Gallery of Maps, before heading onwards into delightful gardens, courtyards and squares. You will see work by Da Vinci, Titian, Veronese and Caravaggio.
For many visitors the highlight of this tour is the Sistine Chapel, consecrated in 1483 with decorated walls featuring the Life of Moses and the Life of Christ. Here you can see the world-famous Michelangelo's Ceiling depicting the story of Genesis, Creation of Adam and his Last Judgement fresco on the Altar wall. You will be given plenty of time to absorb this wondrous art before leaving to be taken to St Peter's Basilica, built on the site of the burial place of the first Pope, St Peter the Apostle. Walk around this vast structure, stroll along the marble floor and pause at the tombs of Popes. You will exit the Basilica through St Peter's Square (Piazza San Pietro) where thousands regularly gather to hear and see the Pope throughout the year. This great open space is known the world over for Papal Masses held here, and televised around the globe. Exiting Vatican City and returning to Italy, you will then be transferred over to your hotel after an amazing day of art and architecture.

We were initially concerned because the driver was very late picking us up and we weren't contacted. Turned out the others on our scheduled tour didn't show up. Eventually we reached the driver and from there everything was great. He was courteous and quickly got us to our tour. The Vatican tour guide was knowledgeable and personable. Since this was our first visit to Europe, I appreciated how our driver took us directly to our Vatican guide and our guide took us directly to our driver. The driver took us to the bed and breakfast and made sure we were comfortable before leaving us.
