Stop At: Colosseum, Piazza del Colosseo, 00184 Rome Italy

Meet your licensed, English-speaking guide at the Arch of Constantine, before enjoying your express, skip-the-line access to the Flavian Amphitheatre, better known as the Colosseum. This incredible monument can boast with several records: it is the biggest, best-preserved Roman amphitheatre in the world and its tiers couldhost up to 75 thousand people. It is also declared as UNESCO World Heritage, along with the entire ancient centre of Rome and officially in the list of the New Seven Wonders of the World. You will start your tour by following your guide to one of the restricted areas of the Colosseum, the Underground Hypogeum.

Descend into the deepest heart of the Colosseum and discover a complete new world of narrow corridors, tunnels and complex mechanisms. Walking through the Undergrounds you will be able to witness the ingenuity of the Romans. The Undergrounds, a recently restored area might seem a bit dark and unwelcoming, but it actually represented the beating heart of the amphitheatre and the popular shows that took place in it. In fact, in the undergrounds slaves moved and created incredible stage effects without anybody noticing, beasts from all over the Empire were prepared for the games and hoisted on the arena and gladiators awaited their moment of glory before the battle.

While visiting this area, your guide will reveal these and many other incredible details about the long lost days of the Colosseum.

We had a little confusion finding our tour group but just had to walk around the Arch and ask. Check-in was easy and then we met our guide, Heidi. She was engaging, passionate and knowledgeable. She has taken many classes and studied the history of Rome extensively. This was evident as we were able to ask her many questions and she had the answers. Heidi is Italian but she spoke excellent English. Getting to go to the arena and underground was definitely worth it. Going so early in the morning you beat most of the crowds which is nice. The Roman Forum was also stunning, so much bigger then we realized. This was one of our favorite tours, highly recommend.

This was a good tour but the rain changed our plans to see the underground area so, we missed that part of the tour. That wasn't really anyone fault. The forum, however, was excellent and amazing to walk the path of the city and hear the information the tour guide provided. Excellent tour.
