The Basilica was built from 1506 to replace the Medieval Basilica and it took 120 years to be finished. Many important artists, such as Raphael and Michelangelo worked on this project. The inside decoration of the Basilica is very Baroque thanks to Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who projected the “Altar of the Chair of St. Peter” and the Baldachin. The beautiful chapel inside the Basilica host the amazing Michelangelo’s “Pietà”, where this painful moment with the body of Jesus laying on the laps of his mother after the deposition from the Cross is depicted.

Once you will have finished your visit inside the Vatican, you will approach Palatine Hill, the hill where Rome has its origins. Now it is a large outdoor museum where you can find emperors Villas and a beautiful panorama of Rome.
