About this activity
After heading to the meeting spot for the 5:30pm departure time, your group will depart on this 4 hour walking tour from the most vibrant and dynamic square in Rome: Campo de’ Fiori. Here, among bustling cafés and street musicians you will meet your guide. Just in time for the Italian 'aperitivo' you will be tasting a selection of artisanal Italian salamis, so special they have protected geographical indication (PGI). This will be accompanied of course by your first taste on this excursion of the country’s notoriously fine wine.

As you stroll through the city center, your guide will be divulging the strange and wonderful history of the area before you taste your next culinary delight: cheese. The historic shop we will be visiting also contains only PGI protected cheeses of various Italian origins and will be complimented by a carefully selected wine. They will also be providing us with a must try Roman specialty: fried salted cod or ‘baccalà fritto’.

Immersion into local cuisine will continue with a tasting of two other typically Roman foods: pizza ‘at the slice’ and supplì. Your guide will be taking you to two eateries that specialize in the production of these scrumptious Italian foods, where these new tastes and aromas will be an unforgettable novelty for your palate.

After a walk to digest these tasty delicacies, you will almost be ready for supper in one of the coziest restaurants in Trastevere. Known for the quality of its food, this quarter is considered to have the best restaurants in Rome. Here, your group will be tasting an exquisite Roman antipasto and two first courses, accompanied by two different Italian wines of protected production and origin. Finally you will finish the tour in Trastevere by trying some delicious locally made Italian ice cream in flavors typical of this famous ice cream shop or ‘gelateria’. Your tour will then be concluded around 9:30pm.

By the end of the tour, not only will you feel content and full of excellent food and wine, you will have immersed yourself in Italian cuisine, a fundamental part of life in Rome. You will feel far more a part of the city than you ever would have imagined you could be.

My wife and I took this tour 4 hours after landing in Rome and it was awesome. Adrian (sp?) was a fantastic guide, giving us enough history to keep us interested but never overwhelming. The tour really gave us a great sense of the city and the confidence to navigate it ourselves the following days. We toured several different neighborhoods, tried many different wines, cheeses and then finished up with a sit down dinner. Our group was wonderful and we really got the chance to connect with everyone due to the small size. Would definitely recommend!

Adrian was our guide and he was amazing (VERY knowledgeable)...covering all the details and history about the neighborhoods we walked through, the foods we tasted and what to do during our visit. I highly recommend this tour for your first day/night in Rome!

This tour was a high light of our trip to Rome. It's a must, especially if you only have a few days.

Don't hesitate to take this tour! We did this on our first night in Rome, and it was the best decision we could have made in terms of giving us a lay of the land and a taste of the food in this great city! Marcello was excellent! He took us to so many amazing places that we would have never discovered on our own. Our sons are 21 and 24 and they loved the tour as well. Marcello was really informative and told us some great stories. He also gave some great recommendations on where to eat during our stay. We went to a gelato place that he recommended every night of our stay! Take the tour. You will not be disappointed!

If you haven't been to Rome or even if you have and want a great night, you NEED to do this tour. Even if the light rainy weather, we had a blast. Marcello I believe that was his name - half German half Italian guide was a great host. Took us to unique places to try some delicious local food and even had a few jokes along the way that were actually funny unlike other guides. You will eat A LOT so be sure to bring an empty stomach. By the last stop of the tour, we were all so full but didn't want to stop eating the tasty food. The group was an intimate one with about 13 of us. We made friends along the way and about 6 of us went out for drinks when the tour was over. Seriously, I highly recommend this and you will absolutely get your money's worth.

The walk thru Rome in the evening was delightful. The group was a perfect size and the guide was very knowledgeable with an excellent rapport with the group. The foods tasted and shared were abundant and delicious, however, for a wine tasting also the wines were average at best. In my opinion the wine tasted with the meats was the best the others were mediocre. As a tour of foods it was superb as to wines dont have high expectations!

The tour was fantastic. We had a lovely group of seven and Marchello was wonderful. Make sure you go hungry- you literally try it all! We loved the supli rice balls and zucchini flowers, but you try everything from meats, wines, cheeses, different pasta and pizza and gelato. Thanks for a great tour!
