Your tour starts steps away from the Colosseum, where you’ll meet your guide, a Roman history enthusiast. After an introductory tour of the structure from outside you will proceed to the skip the line privileged access. Once inside, begin below ground to explore the Colosseum’s tunnels, chambers and pits. This section of the Colosseum is restricted to the public and only allows a select number of visitors each day, so enjoy this exclusive chance to see more than most people do. Here you will be able to admire the engineering of the 88 elevators that brought to life Rome's best spectacle. Next you will head to the arena floor. Most visitors are restricted to walk only around the edge, but you have access to walk on the floor itself, standing on the same spot where the battles took place. After the tour of the Colosseum is over you will be left inside to enjoy some free time and really take in the energy of this world wonder. Once outside, if you wish to continue visiting the nearby areas, home of Ancient Rome, on your own, our tickets allow you to access the Palatine Hill and Roman Forum areas, and wander at your own pace.

Right off the bat we ran into a bit of a glitch with the tour booking, which was rescheduled only a week before we traveled. At first we were given a new date that didn't work for us. Because we were keen to get a guided tour, we opted for a Sunday afternoon not the best for crowds or heat of the day. We can definitely echo the comments regarding the odd set-up and being passed from one person to the next before we finally got our real guide for the Colosseum. We thoroughly enjoyed the underground experience, although it seemed a bit rushed. We had little time to get to the gate to meet up with a new guide for the Forum and Palatine Hill. This portion also seemed a bit rushed. The guide was good, definitely colorful and all in all it was informative and entertaining. I would still give it 4 stars out of 5.

Don’t waste money on Underground portion ... majority is fake replica and not worth a penny more. Skip the line was worth it but can be purchased on its own without Underground extra.
