Stop At: Colosseum, Piazza del Colosseo, 00184 Rome Italy

Visit the Colosseum, one of the largest structures of the ancient world, where Romans once gathered to watch the gladiator games, battles with wild beasts, and according to legend, sea battles. Discover how the Colosseum, a massive stone amphitheater which seated an estimated 60,000 spectators, was built in only 8 years. Your guide will unlock fascinating stories of the design and construction, the political benefit, the fighters, and the eventual end of the games at the Colosseum.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Roman Forum, Piazza Santa Maria Nova, 53, 00186 Rome Italy

At the Roman Forum, your guide will bring to life the mythology, the popular celebrations of the time, and the gods of ancient Rome, which are reflected in the star signs in contemporary astrology. Learn how the pagan holiday Saturnalia influenced the unfolding of Christmas on the 25th of December today. Listen to the story of the Lapis Niger (Latin for ‘black stone’), the most ancient Latin text ever discovered in the world - which is housed in the foundation of a column in the Forum.

Discover the Temple of the Vestal Virgins. They worked in the temple for a period of 30 years under different emperors and were regarded almost as goddesses in status. Their foremost duty was maintaining the sacred fire of Vesta which represented the heart of Rome. As legend has it - as long as the sacred flame burned, Rome would endure and be victorious.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Arco di Costantino, Via di San Gregorio, 00186 Rome Italy

Admire the view of the most important Triumphal Arch of Rome dedicated to the Famous Emperor Costantine.

This Arch represents a turning point of the Roman History and Art, a dividing line between the rise of the Christians and the decline of the Roman Empire.

Duration: 10 minutes

Pass By: Palatine Hill, Piazza Santa Maria Nova, 53, 00186 Rome Italy

The significance of Palatine Hill is that it was here that Rome (and hence the whole of the Roman Empire) was founded under the direction of Romulus. The Palatine Hill is the site of the Lupercal Cave where folklore says the twins Romulus and Remus were found by the she-wolf Lupa (symbol of Rome) who raised them.

In later years, the hill became a residential district attracting the nobility. It was also believed that the air was cleaner at the top of the hill, and the nobility were less likely to catch the diseases of the poorer classes at the bottom. In time, however, the area gave way to imperial palaces and drew the famous such as Caligula (murdered here by members of his Praetorian Guard) and Nero.

Pass By: Tempio di Vesta, Via Sacra Roman Forum, 00186 Rome Italy

The Temple of Vesta (Latin Aedes Vestae; Italian: Tempio di Vesta) is an ancient edifice in Rome, Italy, located in the Roman Forum near the Regia and the House of the Vestal Virgins. The temple's most recognizable feature is its circular footprint. Since the worship of Vesta began in private homes, the architecture seems to be a reminder of its history. The extant temple used Greek architecture with Corinthian columns, marble, and a central cella. The remaining structure indicates that there were twenty Corinthian columns built on a podium fifteen meters in diameter. The roof probably had a vent at the apex to allow smoke release.

valentina was so helpful in bringing the ancient site alive to us. So much better than tromping around in a group.

Alessia Rinaldi with Eyes of Rome gave us Roman History that was exciting, informative, and fun. The lines were wrapped around the Colosseum. Alessia had our tickets in hand and we had a feeling we were at DIsney World with Fast Passes in our possession. We did not wait for 2 hours to enter - but were inside within 10 minutes. Her explanation of history made us feel as if a Gladiator, lion, tiger or any of the other animals that were housed at the colosseum would appear at any moment. Walking along the paths of the Roman Forum made the history of Cesar / The Gods come alive. She explained the restoration processes and the active excavations that are still in progress. Exceptional value. Thanks to Viator for searching for the best tours available for the visitor who plans their own vacations.

Tour of the Colosseum and Forum was amazing! Our tour guide Karin met us right outside of the Airbnb apartment we were staying at and taxi cabbed us to the Colosseum! The drop off after the tour was also included. Once we got to the Colosseum we were able to skip in front of the already long line! Karin was very knowledgeable and engaging. We learned so much! Our tween and teenager also enjoyed it as well. Thank you Karin for the fantastic tour!! Jenny C.

Gianluca was an excellent tour guide with a lot of history knowledge on various areas. We liked the private tour unlike those big bus tours with guides who hold up flags and signs! and having the ability to ask questions and stop whenever we wanted to.... We even stopped in for a nice gelato break where there was a breeze on a hot summer day. I highly recommend the private tour by Eyes of Rome Storytellers!

Our guide, Roberta, was extremely knowledgeable regarding the history of the forum and the colosseum. Every question that we posed, she had answers and knowledge. Her English was extremely good and we could understand her perfectly. She was at out hotel promptly to pick us up and got us a taxi back to the hotel at the end of the tour. I recommend this tour early in the morning because the crowds were not in the forum and they were just beginning at the colosseum. Plus it is very hot in the sun . The tour is a little overpriced, in my opinion, but we enjoyed having a private guide.

Fantastico! Our guide, Maria, was bubbly, fun, and an archaeologist who works on the Forum. Talk about insider's knowledge! She picked us up at our hotel and was a knowledgeable, enthusiastic guide for our entire time together. She made the Colosseum and Forum come to life, showing us the important features and explained how they were used Ancient Rome, what happened to them over time, and the work that has been done to bring them to what we saw that day. She carried visuals and books that showed us what the places looked like in their prime, which helped a great deal. She walked us up to the Palatine Hill, showed us the Circus Maximus, took us through the Forum, and then helped us with suggestions for the rest of our trip. A wonderful, educated guide and we couldn't have been more pleased with this fun and highly informative tour!
