The Vatican Museums are a collection of Christian and art museums. Containing over 70,000 works of art, they are one of the most visited and comprehensive collections of medieval art. There are a total of 54 galleries, of which the Sistine Chapel is the most notable. The Sistine Chapel is well known for the frescoes that decorate its interior and the two Michelangelo masterpieces, The Last Judgment and the Sistine Chapel ceiling, which includes the nine scenes from the Genesis. The Catacombs of Rome are an ancient underground cemetery. There are 40 different catacombs spread throughout Rome and were only rediscovered in the late 1500s, and the latest being found just a few decades back. The St. Peter’s Basilica is the biggest church in the world. It holds the rank of Major Basilica and draws audiences over 80,000 during the Pope’s liturgies. With a history spanning over 28 centuries, Rome is a must-see for anyone visiting Europe.

Your Experience

The 8-hour tour will begin with a visit to the Vatican Museums. The intricate artwork and sculptures of medieval Roman artisans is gorgeous to witness in person. The incredible Roman and Baroque architecture of the 54 different galleries of the Vatican Museums makes for an incredible sight. The final gallery of the Museum is the famed Sistine Chapel. You will be dumbstruck with wonder at the ingenuity and beauty of the intricate paintings on the ceiling of the Chapel. The Last Judgement, a masterpiece by Michelangelo covers the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel. You will then visit the St. Peter’s Basilica, and witness the most exceptional example of Renaissance architecture. Next on the itinerary is a visit to some of the other basilicas and ancient streets of Rome. You can see the Holy Staircase, also known as the Scala Sancta. The 28 marble steps are encased in protective wood and are surrounded by marvellous examples of Renaissance art. After this, you will take a stroll through the Appian way, an ancient street of Rome and pass the Chapel of Domine Quo Vadis, before reaching the Catacombs. Eerie and mysterious, these catacombs give you a view into the life of people in the early 3rd and 4th century. Paintings and sculptures from this era are visible throughout the underground cemetery.
